Cross-media Activists launch 'The Real G8/G20' website

A group of Canadian cross-media activists concerned about the erosion of democracy in Canada have launched The Real G8/G20: A Civil Society Response website (www.therealg8g20.com). The website is a content-rich forum for citizen media: video, film, photography and editorial works by artists, activists, social justice organizations and independent media.

The site's curators includes two Toronto based documentary filmmakers: Liza Santonato (FTP Media) and Liz Marshall, who is also the site's Project Leader (Director, Water on The Table). The site's other curators includes Sheridan College professor Elizabeth Littlejohn, York University graduate Ananya Ohri and  Kim Elliot, Publisher of Rabble.ca.

Anyone can submit photos, article and blog links and video links directly online. There is already a list of web resources and a growing selection of user-generate  videos and timelines posted online.

The Mission Statement posted on the website says: "Our mainstream media has failed to report the real issues that have motivated thousands of people to protest the G8/G20 Summits. It has failed to critically address the intimidation, abuse and illegal actions of the police, which have resulted in the broad abuse of our civil rights. The Real G8/G20: A Civil Society Response is a political and artistic response to this failure, and a showcase of diverse concerns about global economic, social and climate injustice."
