The Sundance Institute has selected 29 feature-length documentaries to receive US$582,000 in grants from its Documentary Film Program (DFP), including two films selected to receive grants from the Cinereach Project at Sundance Institute and one Time Warner Foundation Fellow.

Against the backdrop of the world's largest documentary festival, doc makers, broadcast commissioning editors and funders gather each year for the FORUM, IDFA's co-financing and co-production market. It's the opportunity to consider what IDFA hopes are the most promising new projects that will be completed within the next couple of years. According to organizers, the event has an extremely successful track record, with 90% of pitched projects reaching completion.

Billed as an intimate weekend of unbridled truths and inspirational success stories, the Film Independent Forum dangled film financing insights as the primary hook to attract aspiring producers to four panels on October 22 at the Directors Guild Theater in Hollywood. Attendees came away reassured that the key to getting a narrative feature film made in today’s economy is having a budget that matches the filmmaker’s available resources.
